At Songbirds Preschool in Wallingford Seattle, children learn and grow in the wonder of the outdoors, guided by the rhythms of nature and the principles of Waldorf education. Our dedicated teachers celebrate the unfolding of each child’s unique potential – mind, heart, and spirit – while fostering a love of discovery and community. Together, we create a space where the whole child is honored and childhood is cherished.

With diverse backgrounds and qualifications, our teachers bring a wealth of experience and perspective to their work.

Tara Katz Teacher and Owner
Tara ~ Songbirds Preschool Founder and Owner

Tara has taught kindergarten and first grade at Waldorf schools in Seattle, Whidbey Island, and England, often serving in founding roles. She was also the first preschool teacher at Fremont Community School before opening Songbirds Preschool in 2008, inspired by Seattle’s need for more outdoor education. She studied the principles of Rudolf Steiner and Waldorf Education at Emerson College in England and holds a degree in Speech Communications with an emphasis in Theater Arts from Oregon State University.

Adriana ~ Head of School

Adriana has over 12 years of experience working with children of all ages and brings passion and joy to her work. She especially loves guiding children as they grow and discover the beauty of Waldorf education. She holds a degree in Elementary Education, a Child Development Associate certificate, and a BAS in Early Childhood Education.

Aja ~ Assistant Teacher

Aja graduated from Stanford University with degrees in Urban Studies and Education before moving Seattle this past summer! She has spent the last seven years working as a lead and assistant teacher, K-12 tutor, nanny, and research assistant at one of Stanford’s early childhood development labs. Aja loves arts and crafts of all kinds, cycling, volleyball, rock climbing, trying every coffee shop in the city, and spending time with her 4(!) cats.

Anacapri ~ Assistant Teacher

Anacapri has over six years of childcare experience as both a nanny and assistant camp director. She is passionate about bilingual education and plans to continue her studies in teaching. Originally from San Jose, she moved to Seattle to attend Seattle University, where she earned degrees in Spanish and Philosophy along with certification in Early Childhood Education.

Suzan ~ Substitute Teacher

Suzan has dedicated over 40 years to teaching, beginning her career with students who were visually impaired in Georgia, Florida, Utah, and New York. She later taught students with learning and behavioral differences in Seattle Public Schools before transitioning into substitute teaching, where she continues her passion for education. She holds an M.Ed in addition to her extensive classroom experience.

Maria ~ Substitute Teacher

Maria has been an early childhood educator for 17 years and she is passionate about working with young children. She has a tender approach as well as a creative side and curiosity for learning. Maria grew up in Madrid, Spain and brings cultural diversity into the classroom, with songs, games, or stories. She earned her undergraduate degree at University Complutense in Madrid and has taken intensive courses in Waldorf Education at various locations around the country. Maria makes pottery in her free time. She also loves walking, music and spending time with friends and family. Hugo 28 and Ana 26, are her two beloved children.
