At Songbirds Preschool, we believe education is about more than preparing children for school – it’s about preparing them for life. Rooted in a Waldorf-inspired approach, we guide children through rhythm, imagination, and hands-on learning that speaks to the whole child: head, heart, and hands. In these early years, we nurture not only curiosity and creativity, but also resilience, compassion, and a love of discovery – skills and qualities they will carry with them well into adulthood.

Planted with Purpose – How Songbirds Began

Childhood should be a time of magic and wonder and I can say that mine was having grown up in the 1960s. However, the one thing that was lacking in my youth was community as our family frequently moved and when I turned 11, we moved overseas and it wasn’t until I was 18 that I returned to the US to go to college.
I was fortunate to go to Emerson College in the Sussex countryside in England to do my Waldorf Teacher’s training and it was there that I had a true sense of community and the power that living in Community had on each individual. When I began teaching, it was the creation of a community around the care of children that inspired me so deeply.
The Songbirds Preschool was born from that inspiration. The sense of wanting to create community And to give children the opportunity to experience the wonder of childhood.
What do I mean by the wonder of childhood?
Childhood should consist of many aspects – wild unabandoned joy and play, quiet moments of introspection and observation, forging friendships, and the development of intellectual curiosity.
Songbirds seek to create an inclusive community welcoming people from all walks of life, focused on the wonder of childhood.
